In 2018, energy use in UK homes increased, with domestic buildings now accounting for 14% of total UK emissions. During the same year, the Green Finance Taskforce reported to government with recommendations to build on the UK’s strengths of a robust database of publicly-available EPCs and a well-established supply chain for energy efficiency products and pump prime the ‘green consumer loans’ and ‘green mortgage’ markets. 

With the BEIS Select Committee currently taking evidence on energy efficiency, and on the back of the recent Committee on Climate Change report on UK housing, PRASEG will be hosting a meeting to discuss what steps can be taken to incentivise and increase investment in energy efficiency measures amongst “able-to-pay” home owners. The meeting will consider recent developments relating to green financial products such as green mortgages and the potential role of fiscal measures in accelerating uptake of energy efficiency measures.
